02 Foundations of My Faith

A reflection on my earliest years of walking with the Lord—believing in Jesus as a child, being shaped by pastors and teachers from many streams, and learning how God has patiently guided me through joys, trials, and seasons of surrender.

Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, for His glory.

To all who love the Lord and to all who sincerely seek truth — grace and peace.

When I was around seven years old, I believed in my heart and confessed with my mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord (Romans 10:9) and was baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. From childhood onward, God placed faithful men and women around me who taught me the Scriptures, encouraged me, corrected me, and helped shape my walk with Him. Pastors, teachers, and followers of Jesus from different parts of the Christian world poured into my life, each with gifts the Lord had entrusted to them.

For all of them, and for the family God gave me, I am deeply grateful.

Throughout the years, I’ve seen joys and trials, clarity and confusion, strength and weakness — yet the word of God has remained the lamp for my feet and the light for my path (Ps. 119:105). And through every season, the Lord has been patient with me, guiding me in ways I didn’t always understand at the time.

Did I fully understand everything at seven years old? No. Do I fully understand everything more than thirty years later? No. But the Lord has led me through each step, shaping my heart through humility, repentance, and moments of surrender I never expected.

There is much more I want to share, and much more that I believe will strengthen those who read it. It cannot all be said at once but I will do my best over the coming days. In my next letter, I want to tell you about my beloved Shelby — how God brought us together, and how our journey with Him began to take shape.

Until then, I send my love to you, though I cannot see each of you. God-willing, one day again soon.
